I was also receiving the same "Unexpected error" message on a Windows XP SP2 PC running VB Runtime 6 and WinkeyFinder version 1.72Final even after trying all the pre requisites in the FAQ section. I had use the same WinkeyFinder version on two other PC's with no problem until this one.

A work around for the "Unexpected error" is to boot into Safe Mode then run WinkeyFinder 1.72 Final version. The only thing you can't do is the activation on a new license key while in Safe mode. A reboot will fix the activation for you.
