WKF doesn't change the Product key?

Hi,
Wonder if anyone can assist.. about 3 months ago i purchased 2 systems both Win XP Pro O/S from a bankrupt stock auction, the Hard disks had been wiped and a fresh install of XP Pro with SP2 installed just so they could be seen working... problem is I have this weekend come to get the first on my network and all seems well except its obviously Non Genuine Windows Licence Product keys... there are no XP EULA Stickers or software with them but no matter as I have a couple of genuine copies at hand howver when I tried to use the WKF software to change to a genuine code it says there is an error and can't change it... I have checked the codes are typred in correctly but still no luck... I tried then using a product code from another Win XP Pro system on my network which runs and updates etc as it should so is obviously genuine but get the same result with that code too... Am I missing something vital here, trying to stay legit is causing me some agro!! Will I have to reinstall with the new windows software... I'd rather try to navoid this as i have no driver disks etc for these systems either. Any assistance greatly appreciated
Cheers Evna

You probably have a product key which is stolen one. or some one stole from you and distributed across the web. Now if you have sale documents contact Microsoft.

Re: WKF doesn't change the Product key?

I am a system builder, I have invoices for the two new Windows XP Pro Packs I have... its obvious the two systems I bought second hand as bankrupt stock have false Product ID's and WKF lets me see what they are but it wont allow me to change it for a Genuine Product Key... are you saying that microsoft can override this? I'm just being idle and trying to avoid having to reinstall them both as I dont have driver disks with the systems they came with no disks etc. But its no great problem to reinstall it just that just coming up to Crimbo I have other priorities

Thanks anyway
Evna

Re: WKF doesn't change the Product key?

There are situations where, people who don't own windows xp, and ask for support to change key, we are very much pre-cautious, as we donot wish to violate any TOS of Microsoft.
I'll try and help you out if you can provide more details, xp version, service pack version etc.

Re: WKF doesn't change the Product key?

Hi again,
sorry for the delay have had a couple of days away working... I very much appreciate the dilema, I did in fact try Microsoft several days ago and they weren't helpful they just told me to wipe and reinstall my new versions... however as I said previously that would mean more time and messing about to identify components and getting drivers as i have no disks with these PC's as they are liquidated or bankrupt sell offs and have come with no paperwork or driver disk, but in fairness were sold as such...

Not really sure what more I can tell you the two systems in question have Windows XP Professional and both appear to have SP2 installed. A tweak utility I have reports the following Build 2600_xpsp_sp2_gdr_050301-1519 (Service Pack 2) and as I said I have two, well in fact I have a pack of three brand new Windows XP Pro CD/Licence but the systems will not accept a change of number to the new licences at all... if there is no other way then I shall just have to wipe and reinstall both after the christmas break... I'm just too pushed with work at present... thinking this would be a 10 minute job which is turning into a bit of a 'ben hur' Thanks for your assistance thus far

Re: WKF doesn't change the Product key?

You can follow a simple step here:
http://forums.winkeyfinder.com/showthread.php?t=1155
Given by Imran.
Or you can Uninstall this service pack2 and change the key with winkeyfinder and reinstall service pack.
Various options.

Re: WKF doesn't change the Product key?

hi, everyone. First of all, i'm very sorry for my terrible english - it's not my "default" language
so...I need some help - i've got 2 corporate w2k3 enterprise versions...with different keys...sometimes ago i found some funny troubles - my "first" key stands invalid for installing sp1 (other wsus updates were installed normally, and earlier - 2 or 3 months ago - all was OK)...I sad - HA! and try to tip my "second" key (I must say, that my second "w2k3 ee" was sucsessfully updated and machine, where it stands, was disconnected from the WEB)...for tipping "new" key i used WKF... BUT!!! It says that my key is...well - could someone try to gess? RIGHT - my key's INVALID (first) and has INCORRECT structure(second). After those terrible words, I re-connect second machine and go to microsoft to get some answers...All was ok. - SO...WHY WKF dislike my NORMAL second key?
And HOW incorrect key structure looks like?))
10xs to everyone.
From Russia, with love.

Re: WKF doesn't change the Product key?

Hi, I read your post carefully and from what I understand, here is my answer.
WKF, does not say key good or bad valid or invalid by it self, it merely passes an object to windows OS, based on the returned value it displays the message.
Hope you got what you wanted? If I'm wrong or you need bit more info can you elaborate a bit more please.
Thank you.
