How to successfully change Windows XP Key. I am having problems changing the product key in my Windows XP Professional SP2 system. When I use WinKeyFinder version 1.51 (this is the latest version of WinKeyLite that doesn't give me an "unexpected error" message, OR WinKey Lite I have NO problem changing the product key. I get a confirmation that the product key was changed successfully, and that I should reboot my system and activate my copy of Windows. However, after my system reboots, and I open WinKeyFinder again, I find out that the OLD product key is still there. If I press the 'Activate Windows' button on Winkeyfinder, I get a Windows Activation Screen that says my system has already been activated. So, in a nutshell the problem is that after changing the product key and rebooting, the OLD product key comes back. I need to be able to change the product key, because the old product key is no longer valid and is preventing me from using Windows Update. If I go to Windows Update AFTER changing the key, but BEFORE rebooting the system, I am able to use Windows Update successfully. But when the system is rebooted I am no longer able to use Windows Update, BECAUSE the OLD (invalid) product key is 'misteriously' put back into the registry of Windows. I hope somebody can help solve this mistery. Kind Regards, FlyingNederlander.

Re: How to successfully change Windows XP Key. I forgot to mention in my previous post, that my Windows XP SP2 system has a blocked VLK (Volume License Key). I am trying to change the blocked key to a valid, working key. But as described above, WinKeyLite and Winkeyfinder version 1.55 only changes the key 'temporarily'. As soon as the system reboots the old (blocked VLK) is back in the system, and the new 'good key' is gone.

Re: How to successfully change Windows XP Key. This will not solve your problem, but may allow you to use WIN UPDATE in the mean time. When in windows updates page before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter: javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all') It turns off the trigger for the key check.

Re: How to successfully change Windows XP Key. I too am having problems with a Win XP SP2 system... First, I only get winkeyfinder v1.60 to run on my system... both 1.65 and 1.70 return "unexpected error" each time I doubleclick on the .exe, both in full boot and safe boot modes (someone said somewhere it would work in safe mode but not on my laptop). Then, with v1.60, it returns the current key but when I type in the new product key, an error about "key is invalid or typed in wrong" is displayed so I can't get winkeyfinder to even change the key. I have tried TWO additional keys for XP Pro systems which DO WORK on other systems with MSupdate as tests and winkeyfinder won't accept them either - but they are working keys on other laptops...??? (Obviously, I double checked my input very carefully - do not believe this is user error). Help please? I'm trying to move from one laptop to another without having to re-install the o/s in order to put in the new and proper product key. I also tried the javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all') at MS updates but that didn't help. Thanks.

Strange on some systems winkeyfinder works and on some it doesnot! Since Im just a student I donot have enough resources to test this software on other machines before release it. A complete new winkeyfinder will come out after 1.72, 1.72 will be final version that is coded in VB the New version 1.00 is been re-written completly in C#, which will provide us with least number of errors! As it is robust enough to do so,, Thanks regards..

| Re: How to successfully change Windows XP Key. I am also having problems where winkeyfinder says my key is invalid. But I know for a fact it is a legit key as we have just received it from Microsoft and have used it on installs already and it works with new genuine advantage. | Re: How to successfully change Windows XP Key. Once Microsoft's Genuine Advantage slopware has been installed, most keychangers will no longer accept new keys, even if they are valid. Maybe thats the problem with WinkeyFinder also? The "unexpected error" problem seems to occur on Xp Pro rather than Xp Home. |

Re: How to successfully change Windows XP Key. in safe mode you need to change the oobe timer in the registry, be sure to replace whatever characters you remove. so if you delete two characters in oobe, then replace them with two different ones. then rename the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files (add .old to end if needed) do a search for it, should be in %systemroot%\windows\system32 you may need to enable flie extension viewing in order to rename correctly, otherwise you will end up with files like wpa.old.dbl try changing key and reboot see if it takes then.
