Activating Windows XP

my sister have formatted my computer like almost a month ago and my computer now needs a product key to activate it .
the problem is that i can't find my product key anywhere on my computer. it's not on the cpu or inside the cpu.
i can't find the papers and everything about the computer .
my cousin gave me the computer, they bought it from some mini computer store on her block.
i used winkeyfinder to look for the product key and it did show a product key but when i typed it in to activate it, it wouldn't work .
i've tried everything i can already except for the calling a microsoft place for assisstance part.
any help? suggestions? thanks .

Look you lost product key.
Where did you used WinkeyFinder to get the key?
on the same system you lost key? were you able to install OS with out the key? or with key? if with key which Key did you use?
if it is a pirated key then Activation wont happen.

You might have to contact Microsoft for Further assistance or buy a new key.
