key identification Hi all. I have been looking high and low, and I hope I am posting in theright place for this. If not, I apologize! I have a key that I believe is for either for xp home, or pro. But I just don't know which. Does anyone know of any way to figure that out? Besides actually trying to install an OS with it. I just don't want to go through the trouble of putting another rig together without knowing if I will have an OS. I don't really want to run a variant of linux on this setup. I appreciate any assistance.

Re: key identification Yes there are ways to find out, but you should be knowing about this when own a OS? it is quite obvious that a owner of Windows OS should know which OS he has bought?

Re: key identification Thank you for your response. Trouble is, I had a computer a few years ago that I had my brother put together for me. He is an IT guy, and this was before I knew how to do this stuff myself. He installed the OS. I had XP home on that computer. Here we are now and I was wanting to reinstall that OS on another computer, that hold one has long since been decomissioned. But I do not have the key. I spoke with him and he found a key that he knew was not being used anymore, but it was just a hand written key he himself wrote, who knows when. He could not remember what OS it was. It does not seem to work with XP home. This is why I am wondering if there is a way I can identify what OS this key is related to. He is a very by the book guy, so I know this is an available key.
